Devils’ Nico Hischier to miss remainder of 2025 World Championship with injury

Switzerland forward Nico Hischier will miss the remainder of the 2025 World Championship with a muscular injury, but the New Jersey Devils can confirm there are no long-term concerns and the move is precautionary, according to Devils reporter Amanda Stein.

Hischier scored two goals and added an assist for three points in four games during the tournament. The news comes as Switzerland has seen some success, recording three wins and one overtime loss in their four games.

Former NHL forwards Sven Andrighetto and Dennis Malgin, who both currently plays for Zurich SC in the Swiss league, leads Switzerland in points with six.
Hischier, 26, is coming off another successful season with the Devils, finishing the 2024-25 campaign with 35 goals and 34 assists for 69 points in 75 regular-season games. Through eight NHL seasons, Hischier has 171 goals and 251 assists for 422 points in 527 career regular-season games.
He has also appeared in 22 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring six goals and six assists for 12 points.
Taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Hischier is considered one of the best two-way forwards in the game. In 2022-23, Hischier finished second in Selke Trophy voting. In February 2021, he was named the 12th captain in Devils history.
This past season, Hischier set a career high in goals with 35. In 2022-23, he set career highs in assists and points with 49 and 80, respectively.
