Devils sign Ethan Edwards to entry-level contract

The New Jersey Devils announced Tuesday that the club has signed defenseman Ethan Edwards to a two-year, entry-level contract to begin in the 2025-26 season. As part of the agreement, Edwards will join the AHL affiliated Utica Comets for the balance of the current campaign on an amateur tryout.

Through 36 appearances this season with the NCAA’s Michigan Wolverines, Edwards notched five goals and 16 assists to finish fourth in team scoring and first among team defensemen with 21 points. With it, Edwards registered a minus-two rating and a team-leading 40 penalty minutes. In all, through four seasons with the Wolverines, Edwards totaled 15 goals and 41 assists for 46 points through 130 career contests.

Prior to committing to the Wolverines, Edwards also spent a single season with the USHL’s Sioux City Musketeers where through 51 appearances he ranked fourth in team scoring and first among defensemen with 27 points counting six goals and 21 assists coupled with a plus-15 rating and 96 penalty minutes.

A 22-year-old native of Grande Prairie, Alta., Edwards also spent part of two seasons with the AJHL’s Spruce Grove Saints underscored by the 2019-20 campaign where through 50 outings he racked up nine goals and 24 assists for 33 points. In all, Edwards finished with 34 points across two seasons and 60 total games with the Saints.

Edwards was originally chosen by the Devils in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft.

For the Devils, on the season the clubs sits 37-28-7 to hold down third place in the Metropolitan Division with 81 points. Following a shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Monday, the Devils will look to return to the win column when the squad retakes the ice Wednesday against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Devils have qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs two times in the past 12 years.
