Devils sign Shane LaChance to entry-level contract

The New Jersey Devils signed forward Shane Lachance to an entry-level deal on Sunday, according to Daily Faceoff hockey insider Frank Seravalli.

LaChance’s second season at Boston University ended in heartbreak after they lost to Western Michigan in the NCAA Men’s Championship.
The Devils acquired the prospect from the Edmonton Oilers in a three-team trade with the Boston Bruins last March in the Trent Ferederic.
This past season, the 21-year-old LaChance scored 12 goals and had 18 assists for 30 points in 40 games with Boston University. In two years of college hockey, LaChance has 25 goals and 32 assists for 57 points in 80 career games.
LaChance, a native of Andover, Mass., was taken in the sixth round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Before enrolling at Boston University, LaChance spent two seasons in the United States Hockey League with the Youngstown Phantoms. In his second season in 2022-23, he had 33 goals and 21 assists for 54 points in 62 regular-season games.
The Devils lost 1-0 on Sunday to the New York Islanders, and are 41-31-7 with 89 points, third in the Metropolitan Division. They will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Forward Jesper Bratt leads the team in assists and points with 67 and 88, respectively. Nico Hischier leads the team in goals with 35. Jacob Markstrom has a record of 26-16-6 with a .900 save percentage (SV%) and 2.50 goals against average (GAA). Before he suffered a season-ending injury, Jack Hughes had finished with 27 goals and 43 assists for 70 points.
