New Jersey Devils sign Tyler Brennan to three-year entry-level contract

New Jersey Devils Executive Vice President and General Manager Tom Fitzgerald announced Sunday that they had signed goaltender Tyler Brennan to a three-year entry-level contract beginning in 2023-24.

Brennan was drafted in the fourth round (No. 102) of the 2022 NHL Draft. He was the second goaltender to be selected at the draft in Montreal last summer. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, product plays for the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he has garnished a four-year career thus far. He is currently in the second round of the WHL playoffs facing off against the Seattle Thunderbirds, with a 1-1 record of 2.98 goals against average and .882 save percentage. The 19-year-old netminder appeared in 37 games this season, posting a 21-10-3 record and two shutouts, a 2.86 GAA and a .898 save percentage. He was one of 15 WHL goalies to surpass the 20-win mark this season and helped the Cougars clinch a playoff birth. The Cougars beat the Tri-City Americans in round one of the playoffs in six games, 4-2. 

In 2019-20, Brennan represented Team Canada White at the U-17 World Hockey Challenge; in four games, he posted a 2-2 record and a 3.35 GAA. He would again represent Canada, this time at the IIHF U-18 World Junior Championship in 2020-21 but served as the club’s third strong goaltender behind Thomas Millic and Ben Gaudreau (San Jose Sharks. He captured a gold medal with Canada on a loaded team that was represented by Connor Bedard, as well as Shane Wright (Seattle Kraken), Mason McTavish (Anaheim Ducks), Dylan Guenther (Arizona Coyotes) and Wyatt Johnston (Dallas Stars).
