The New Jersey Devils added forward depth on trade deadline day by adding Curtis Lazar from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2024.

Lazar will add physicality to the Devils’ loaded forward group. The 28-year-old is a spirited forechecker who was second among Canucks forwards in hits with 124. Lazar had spent the previous week on IR but was activated from the injured reserve on Thursday.

For New Jersey, the trade is a low-risk move that enriches their bottom-six forward options. Vancouver, meanwhile, continues a sale that has included Bo Horvat and Luke Schenn thus far.

The Devils acquired sniper Timo Meier from the Sharks last weekend in a blockbuster 13-piece trade. As it stands, they would face the rival New York Rangers at home in the playoffs, but leapfrogging the Carolina Hurricanes for the Metropolitan Division’s top seed is still very much a possibility.

New Jersey is on a three-game winning streak, a stretch that has seen them score seven goals twice. They will battle the Vegas Golden Knights tonight at 10:00 pm ET before rounding out their three-game road trip in Arizona on Sunday.
