Islanders acquire Scott Perunovich from Blues for conditional fifth-round pick

The New York Islanders have acquired defenseman Scott Perunovich from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a conditional fifth-round selection in the 2026 NHL Draft, reports Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.

Through 24 appearances with the Blues this season, Perunovich has registered two goals and four assists for six points alongside a plus-one rating. Scratched for 13 of the Blues’ past 15 games, Perunovich’s last showing came in early January, a 6-4 road loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets in which he closed out the contest with 15:36 in time on ice.

Originally chosen 45th overall by the Blues in the 2018 NHL Draft, Perunovich has skated part of three seasons with St. Louis, totaling 97 games in which he has recorded two goals and 27 assists for 29 points alongside 26 penalty minutes and a plus-four rating. The 26-year-old Hibbing, Minn., native has also spent part of two seasons with the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds, where through a combined 39 games he notched five goals and 37 assists for 42 points. Perunovich is a graduate of the NCAA’s Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.

Per PuckPedia, Perunovich carries a $1.15-million annual average value and is a due to become a restricted free agent this offseason.

Perunovich joins an Islanders squad in the midst of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference. On the season, the Islanders sit 21-20-7 and six points back of the Tampa Bay Lightning for the second wildcard position. The Islanders have qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs the past two years, losing out to the Carolina Hurricanes in the opening round both times.

Like the Islanders, the Blues also continue to push for a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Through 50 appearances this season, the Blues are 23-23-4 and five points back of the Calgary Flames for the second wildcard seed in the Western Conference.
