Islanders’ Noah Dobson week-to-week with lower-body injury
The New York Islanders announced Thursday that defenseman Noah Dobson will be out of the lineup week-to-week due a lower-body injury.
Dobson sustained the injury Monday versus the Columbus Blue Jackets following an awkward collision with Blue Jackets center Cole Sillinger. Dobson left early in the third period and did not return, ultimately wrapping up the contest with 15:38 in time on ice in which he registered one assist, two shots, and four hits.
Originally chosen 12th overall by New York in the 2018 NHL Draft, Dobson is skating in his sixth season with the Islanders in which he has made 46 appearances and collected six goals and 18 assists for 24 points to rank fifth in team scoring and first among defensemen.
The 25-year-old native of Summerside, P.E.I., is coming off his most productive season as the 2023-24 campaign saw him approach point-per-game production in registering 10 goals and 60 assists in 79 outings to sit seventh among all rearguards league-wide and 22 points back of first-place Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks.
In all, Dobson has seen 363 career contests with New York in which he has tallied 46 goals and 169 assists for 215 points while adding another 10 points through 31 postseason appearances.
Per PuckPedia, Dobson is in the final year of a three-year pact that carries a $4-million annual average value and is eligible to become a restricted free agent this offseason.
On the season, the Islanders sit 19-20-7 and seven points back of the Ottawa Senators for the final wildcard position in the Eastern Conference. However, the Islanders are riding a two-game win streak and will look to make it three consecutive victories when the club returns to the ice Friday to take on the Metropolitan Division rival Philadelphia Flyers.
The Islanders have qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in back-to-back seasons, twice losing out to the Carolina Hurricanes in the opening round.
