New York Rangers sign Nick Bonino to one-year contract

New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury announced that the Rangers have signed veteran forward Nick Bonino to a one-year, $800,000 contract.

— Frank Seravalli (@frank_seravalli) July 1, 2023Bonino spent the 2022-23 season with the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins. While with the Sharks, he notched 10 goals and 19 points in 59 games before being dealt at the trade deadline to Pittsburgh, where he dressed in only three games. The 35-year-old represented and was named captain of Team USA at the IIHF World Championships; he registered three goals and one assist for four points in nine games, capturing a bronze medal.
Bonino was initially drafted No. 173 by the Sharks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. After a three-year stint at Boston University, which saw him capture the NCAA Championship, he embarked on his pro career. His rights were then held by the Anaheim Ducks; he made his NHL debut in 2009-10, notching two points in nine games. He spent four seasons with the Ducks before heading to Vancouver in the 2014-15 season. After one year with the Canucks, Bonino was dealt to the Penguins, where he would go on to play a pivotal role and win back-to-back Stanley Cups. He then signed a four-year, $16 million contract with the Nashville Predators.
The Hartford, Connecticut product has appeared in 823 games over 14 NHL seasons, collecting 158 goals and 195 assists for 353 points thus far. He has added 19 goals and 48 points in 105 career NHL playoff games while playing for the Ducks, Canucks, Penguins, Predators, Sharks, and Minnesota Wild.
