Saulnier, a former Canadian National Team veteran, was hurt with an upper-body injury during New York’s season-opening overtime win over the Minnesota Frost. The club placed her on LTIR on Dec. 4.
Saulnier was one of the original members of New York’s roster last year, but injury troubles kept her out for most of the season. She was limited to just 18 games, scoring a goal and an assist.
Saulnier has played for Team Canada at four IIHF Women’s World Championships, winning gold once, and helping her country take home the gold at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
As for Vespa, the 27-year-old forward was pointless through four games, playing three minutes or less in three of the four games. Through 23 games last season, Vespa had two goals and an assist through three games.
Going into Sunday’s game, the Sirens are 3-1-1 with nine points, third in the league standings. Forward Alex Carpenter and Sarah Fillier are tied for second in the league in points with seven, respectively. Carpenter has four goals and three assists, while Fillier, the 2024 PWHL Draft No. 1 overall pick, has two goals and five assists. Both players have generated 14 shots.
