One of the best players in women’s hockey has hit the jackpot.

On Wednesday, the New York Sirens announced that the team has signed forward Sarah Fillier to a two-year contract through the 2026-27 season.

According to Hailey Salvian of The Athletic, the deal will make the second-year pro the highest-paid player in the PWHL. The actual dollar amount has not yet been reported.

“I’m so excited to re-sign in New York for two more years,” Fillier said in a release. “It’s a special city to play in, and I feel lucky to be part of this team. I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead and continuing to build something great in the Big Apple with the Sirens.”

It’s no surprise that general manager Pascal Daoust is backing up the truck and dumping a big wad of cash into Fillier’s bank account. The 25-year-old has made an immediate impact on the organization, despite the team as a whole having been underwhelming in its first two years of existence.

Since Fillier was picked first overall in the 2024 PWHL Draft, New York has earned a certain amount of respect with what Fillier brings to the table. She was a proficient player at Princeton and early on in her international career with Canada. With the Sirens, the Georgetown, Ontario native always seemed to find a way to make an impact on the game. Fillier started off her PWHL career with seven points in four games, notching 15 points over the first half of the regular season.

Even though the Sirens really tapered off in the final half of the year, Fillier continued to produce, leading to her posting 13 goals and 16 assists for 29 points. She ended up tied with Boston Fleet captain Hilary Knight for the most points in the league, as the two shared the Points Leader Award. Fillier, who was a finalist for the Forward of the Year, was unanimously picked as the PWHL Rookie of the Year.

Things might be tougher for Fillier next season, as linemates Alex Carpenter and Jessie Eldridge both are joining the expansion team in Seattle. Daoust has made some moves to bolster the lineup, signing free agent defender Jincy Roese and acquiring Kristin O’Neill, and a draft pick, from the Montreal Victoire in exchange for Abby Roque.

With Fillier’s new contract, the Sirens have 10 of a possible 23 players signed to standard contracts for the 2025-26 season.
