Matchup
Ottawa (4-2–0) is on the second game of a three-game road trip before returning home. So far, the Senators are 1-1 as the road team after losing 4-1 to Montreal earlier this season and defeating Utah 4-0 in their most recent game. The Senators currently sit tied with the Lightning, Red Wings, and Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division, but they have at least a game in hand on each of those teams.
Meanwhile, Vegas (4-3–1) has won all four home games this season by a combined score of 21-9, and it covered the puck line in three of those games. Vegas is 10-2 against the Senators all time, including 5-1 at home. The Golden Knights lost the last meeting, in Ottawa, but they had won nine straight versus the Senators prior to that. Vegas is currently tied with Seattle for third place in the Pacific Division, but it has a game in hand on the Kraken.
Best Bets for Senators vs. Golden Knights
Vegas Golden Knights Moneyline (-130) at Sports Interaction
All signs point to Linus Ullmark making his return to the Senators’ crease on Friday after Ottawa reassigned goaltender Leevi Merilainen to the minors and sportsbooks have been adjusting their game odds as a result. Vegas originally opened as a -155 moneyline favorite, but have since moved to -130 following the news, and I think this makes the Golden Knights an attractive bet.
The Ottawa Senators are struggling at five-on-five, ranking 27th in goals per 60 minutes. While their expected goals metrics are slightly better than Vegas, Ottawa has underperformed on expected goals for each of the last four seasons. In contrast, the Golden Knights rank as a top-five offensive team, with 3.58 goals per 60 minutes.
Although Vegas hasn’t shown the same defensive structure as last season, it’s poised for an offensive boost. Ullmark has never lost versus Vegas in his career, but this will be just his third game against the club. Defenseman Shea Theodore is set to return from illness after signing a seven-year extension, and forward William Karlsson is ready to make his season debut, so I’m backing the Golden Knights to keep their home win streak alive at -130 moneyline odds.
