There will be a new way for fans across the globe to watch the best hockey league in the world.

On Wednesday, the National Hockey League and streaming service DAZN announced a multi-year deal that will see DAZN become the home of NHL.TV, exclusively, to nearly 200 countries outside of the United States, Canada and Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden). The new streaming deal is set to begin this coming season.

The deal will allow fans and viewers in countries such as Germany, Czechia, Switzerland and other hockey hotbeds overseas the opportunity to experience watching the NHL in a new and improved way.

NHL Chief Operating Officer Steve McArdle believes the new deal will make it easier for fans around the globe to follow their favorite teams and players.

The NHL is a global League, and with 30 percent of our Players born outside of North America, engaging our international fans is a significant priority,” McArdle said in a release. “Media distribution is at the core of our global strategy, and we are thrilled to partner with DAZN to continue to expand our global reach and engage with our fast-growing international fan base.  Our shared commitment to innovation, gold standard technology and providing an exceptional content delivery service will allow us to deliver NHL content to hockey fans around the world on the platforms they prefer.”

As part of the deal, every game will be on-demand, with NHL.TV, which is becoming integrated into DAZN, a top streaming platform that carries the NFL internationally, as well as the NBA, boxing and some of the top European football leagues. The Stanley Cup Playoffs and final will be streamed on DAZN. NHL.TV will join the network’s series of packages, which include NFL Game Pass, PGA Tour Pass, and FIBA’s Courtside 1891.

There is one caveat. Select games will be blacked out from live coverage in certain countries due to any national broadcast rights, but will be made available on DAZN the following day.
