<p>The NHL department of player safety has fined Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher $2,500 for roughing. </p>



<p>The incident happened near the end of Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers. Gallagher lined up across from Rangers forward Barclay Goodrow and the pair jockeyed for position off the draw. </p>



<p>Gallagher fell to the ice overtop of Goodrow and when the pair got up, the Habs forward delivered a sucker punch knocking the Rangers forward to the ice. </p>
