NHL Mock Draft 2019: No.11 — Peyton Krebs
The Philadelphia Flyers have alternated making and missing the playoffs for each of the last eight seasons, only getting by the first-round once over that stretch.
Over the years, the Flyers have done a great job accumulation high-end prospects through the draft. They’ve built their blueline through the 2012-to-2015 drafts, taking Shayne Gostisbehere (No.78 overall) in 2012, Samuel Morin (No.11)and Robert Hagg (No.41) in 2013, Travis Sanheim (No.17) in 2014 and finally Ivan Provorov (No.7) in 2015.
After setting the foundation on their blueline, they’ve drafted the NHL’s top goalie prospect (Carter Hart) and added some game-breaking forward talent:
- — Nolan Patrick– C (No.2 Pick in 2017)
- — Travis Konecny– W (No.24 Pick in 2015)
- — Morgan Frost – C (No.27 Pick in 2017)
- — Joel Farabee – W (No.14 Pick in 2018)
- — Isaac Ratcliffe– W (No.35 Pick in 2017)
- — German Rubtsov – C/W (No.22 in 2016)
Flyers’ GM Chuck Fletcher has made it known that he is open to trading the No.11 overall pick, but let’s assume they hold onto the pick for the sake of this mock draft.
Fletcher on possibility of trading the No.11 pick: "It's early. I've mentioned to teams that we're in play but there hasn't been a big push for the pick yet. If we keep it & stay at 11, we're going to get a good player…It's certainly a good chip that if moved, it could help."

With the No.11 Overall Pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers select…
Peyton Krebs — LW/C — Canada 🇨🇦
Krebs was a projected top-10 pick but reportedly tore his Achilles and will miss the start of the 2019-20 season, which could hurt his draft stock. However, the Flyers deep prospect pool will allow them to take a chance on Krebs with the No.11 pick.
The 18-year-old was the captain of the Kootenay Ice (WHL) this season and accumulated 19 goals and 49 assists (68 points) in 64 games. Krebs does a lot of things very, very well. He is an extremely hard-working forward who excels in all three zones. At the offensive end, he uses his speed, high hockey IQ and puck skills to set up his linemates and create opportunities for himself.
Krebs is actually pretty comparable to Konecny. They are pretty comparable in size—Krebs (5-foot-11, 181 lbs.), Konecny (5-foot-10, 174 lbs.)—and both play a hard-nosed, 200-foot game with high-end offensive skills. In Konecny’s draft year, he was also the captain of his junior team and put up 68 points. Eerily similar and it makes Krebs an obvious fit for the Flyers.
Scouting Report
Peyton Krebs is a potent point-producer and offensive catalyst that rises to the occasion whenever he’s on the ice. He is a smooth, shifty skater that traverses all three zones with ease and closes the gap on the backcheck quickly. All-in-all, Peyton Krebs is an exciting mix of speed, skill, smarts, and hard-nosedness in all three zones. He’s got a very high ceiling. — Curtis Joe (Elite Prospects)
Krebs is more of a pass-first center, but he has very good hands and proved to be reliable as a shooter off the pass. His wrist shot is hard and accurate, and bad-angle shots get kicked into the low slot with regularity. He is excellent during cycles and board play, and he’s capable of engineering trick or set plays off faceoffs or corner battles. Krebs can handle physical play from bigger opponents and finishes his own checks with authority. His leadership traits and on-ice persona should make him a candidate to one day be named any team’s captain. — Steve Kournianos (thedraftanalyst.com)
