Adam Fox (-167), Dylan Strome (-167) Over 0.5 Points Parlay: +156 Sports Interaction
We will shake things up here and go with a small parlay of both Fox and Strome to record a point, which comes out to +156 at Sports Interaction, as I know a lot of bettors aren’t interested in laying -167 as a single. I do value both prices as single bets in their own right, which should always be true if you are opting to parlay bets together.
Things have gotten ugly in New York, as the Rangers have struggled to a 4-6-0 record over the last 10 and are barely inside the playoff picture. As a result, captain Jacob Trouba has likely played his last game as a Ranger, and is going to be out in this matchup.
Chances are we will see hefty minutes doled out to Fox in this critical spot, and he gets the best matchup in hockey to produce versus a Penguins side allowing 3.78 goals against per game.
Over the last 12 games, Fox ranks second on the Rangers with 11 points, and has averaged 23:02 of time on ice in that span. His strong transition game and ability to drive possession in the offensive zone should lead to plenty of opportunities to record points in a matchup versus Pittsburgh.
Strome gets a far tougher matchup as he takes on a Leafs side allowing just 2.52 goals against per game. Still, he ranks 10th in the league in points and I think he’s being slighted by oddsmakers with this price tag. The Ontario native has recorded 34 points in 25 games played this season, and is performing like a true No. 1 center.
The Capitals’ top power-play unit has been more effective since Ovechkin’s injury, succeeding 34.6% of the time. Jakob Chychrun has an elite shot in his own right and offers a far more dynamic look than the unit had with Ovechkin, and I’d actually argue this current combination will continue to find better results. That’s good news for Strome, who gets the most touches on the unit in his role on the half-wall.
In time, the Capitals’ newly-formed top unit of Connor McMichael, Strome, and Wilson should prove highly effective. I’ll bet we see the all-Ontario-born trio make an impact on this matchup, and like the chances Strome remains productive.
Logan Stankoven Over 2.5 Shots on Goal: +140 Sports Interaction
The Stars suffered a tough loss this week as Tyler Seguin sustained a significant hip injury and will be sidelined for 4-6 months.
Seguin’s injury breaks up one of the best second lines in hockey, which had helped the Stars achieve strong results this season, despite slow starts from Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson. In 194.4 minutes together, Seguin, Mason Marchment, and Matt Duchene have generated 3.58 xG/60 and been highly productive where it counts.
The good news for Stars fans is that Stankoven should be able to do a great job helping to mitigate the loss of Seguin on the second line, and has already looked deserving of more than his current average of 15:20 time on ice.
Stankoven is a tremendous forechecker, and does a great job keeping plays alive on the walls. He’s excellent at creating pockets of space in the offensive zone, which has allowed him to generate a team-leading 10.72 shots on goal per 60 this season. He also ranks first on the Stars with 17.53 shot attempts per 60.
Even if my belief that over a larger sample size his shot volume will rise in his new role is wrong, +140 presents as a good number for him to record three shots. He’s gone over 2.5 in 12 of 23 games this season, and we only need to hit this bet 43% of the time to be profitable at +140.
While Vegas is an elite team, it is by no means a bad matchup for Stankoven in this market. The Knights have allowed the 10th-most shots on goal in the league over the last 15 games.
