Anthony Beauvillier Anytime Goalscorer: +500 Sports Interaction

The Capitals raised some eyebrows when they traded a second-round pick to bring in Beauvillier at the trade deadline, but just like all of the Capitals’ other recent trades, it looks to be working out quite well.

Beauvillier played on the top line alongside Dylan Strome and Alex Ovechkin in Round 1 versus the Montreal Canadiens and produced a goal and five points. The trio did not fare well defensively but generated 3.22 xGF/60, which led all Capitals lines in the series.

While the name power might suggest the other two carried Beauvillier, watching the games would suggest the opposite, as Beauvillier looked the most threatening of the three players on the line. He had 20 shot attempts in the series and generated 1.80 individual expected goals.

Beauvillier is a proven playoff performer, which was likely part of the reason a Capitals front office, which can do no wrong lately, viewed him as an enticing pickup. He’s scored 17 goals in 60 career playoff games and was tremendous during the New York Islanders’ back-to-back runs to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Hurricanes allowed only 2.20 goals against per game in Round 1, but the New Jersey Devils were one of the worst offensive teams in the league after Jack Hughes was sidelined due to injury. During the regular season, the Hurricanes allowed 3.01 xGA/60 and played a more high-event style than in years past under head coach Rod Brind’Amour, as part of their dominance was their strong offensive play.

At +500, we are getting a good price to back a player who looked excellent in Round 1, finding the back of the net in Tuesday’s series opener.

Andrei Svechnikov Anytime Goalscorer: +300 Sports Interaction

Svechnikov recorded a series-leading five goals in Carolina’s opening round matchup versus the Devils and generated a wealth of chances playing on the top power play and second line. He poured in 43 shot attempts and had 4.9 individual expected goals in the series, which currently is the second-highest mark of any skater this postseason.

The Hurricanes’ power play was excellent versus the Devils, as it succeeded on 33% of opportunities. The Canadiens succeeded on 33.3% of power-play opportunities in Round 1 versus Washington, who certainly appeared to be missing Martin Fehervary, who led the team in penalty kill time on ice in the regular season.

Carolina’s second trio of Svechnikov, Taylor Hall, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi was entirely dominant versus the Devils, generating 5.90 xGF/60, which is the highest mark of any line to play over 20 minutes together this postseason.

Svechnikov is a high-quality shooter who is getting plenty of chances both at even strength and on the power play. The underlying results suggest he could continue scoring at a comparable rate moving forward, and at +300, we are getting a great price to target him staying hot.

Svechnikov is also priced at +1100 to lead the series in goals at Sports Interaction, which also looks worthy of a bet.
