NHL playoff contenders should be looking at Marc-Andre Fleury ahead of trade deadline
Marc-Andre Fleury added to his Hockey Hall of Fame resume on Monday night after the Minnesota Wild defeated the New York Islanders 5-0, earning his 552nd career win, surpassing Patrick Roy for No. 2 on the NHL’s all-time win list.

Stopping all 21 shots he faced, it was the 74th career shutout for Fleury, which is 12th all-time, two behind Hall-of-Fame netminder Tony Esposito. It’s been a storied career for the 2003 No. 1 overall pick, who is one of the last active players to have played a game in the NHL before the 2004-05 lockout season.
Now 39 years old and close to retirement, some around the game wonder if Fleury, who has an 8-9-3 record with an .897 SV% this season, could be traded to a Stanley Cup-contender before the March 8 trade deadline.
On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss who could use Fleury and what the Wild should do with the future Hall of Fame goaltender.
Tyler Yaremchuk: If you’re a contending team, maybe even the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the WIld say we’re willing to take half of Fleury’s salary, I think a lot of contending teams would like to bring him in the mix for a playoff run.
Frank Seravalli: As they should be. It’s not so much about the draft pick that the Wild could get in a trade, it’s about doing the right thing. Fleury has all the control, and there’s zero chance they move him if he doesn’t have any interest in moving on.
But if he comes to them and says he wants to compete for a Stanley Cup, they won’t stand in his way.
