NHL power rankings: How much worse can it get for the Sabres?

Christmas time is just around the corner, and Hunter and I are coming to you live by living up to a blogger’s biggest stereotype: living in our parents’ basements (at least Hunter is one-upping me and living with his in-laws)! Santa Claus seemed to have an early present for hockey fans, as we were given a holiday trade freeze that actually captured a fraction of the same energy as the trade deadline. Kaapo Kakko to the Kraken? Alexandre Carrier to the Habs? Pierre-Oliver Joseph returning to the Penguins? Rumours of the Predators making a swing for a center in a last-ditch effort to save their season? Sign me up!

Hunter Crowther and I continue to navigate through the results so far this season with another week of our co-op power rankings. I have my same old system in which I aggregate six stats (points %, 5-on-5 goal differential, 5-on-5 xGF/60, 5-on-5 xGA/60, power play xGF/60, and shorthanded xGA/60, all coming courtesy of Natural Stat Trick) to come up with a list that eliminates my own biases, along with a rule that no team can be above a team that’s more than five points ahead of them in the standings, regardless of where the aggregate places them. On the other hand, Hunter goes off his own intellect and pure vibes, and together we find a way to combine it and meet in the middle.

1. New Jersey Devils

Record: 22-11-3, +28
Last Week: 2nd (+1)
Hunter’s Rank: 1st
Scott’s Rank: 1st

Hunter: I could go on about how good the Devils’ offense is, how Dougie Hamilton continues to be disrespected when we talk about the game’s best blueliners, how Sheldon Keefe seems to have his team ready to go every single night. But what’s impressed me most about this Devils squad is that through the month of December, they’ve allowed more than two goals in a game just once in nine contests. Jacob Markstrom is a big part of that, posting a .911 save percentage (SV%) and third-best 2.20 goals against average (GAA). Going into this week, 14 players in the lineup have a 5v5 expected goal share of at least 54 percent. The Devils are damn good, and the rest of the league should start paying attention to Keefe’s squad.

Scott: The line of Nico Hischier, Timo Meier and Stefan Noesen in particular has been excellent, and not just offensively, as their 5v5 xG% is a whopping 70.49%. 70 percent!

2. Washington Capitals

Record: 23-8-2, +39
Last Week: 1st (-2)
Hunter’s Rank: 2nd
Scott’s Rank: 2nd

Scott: The Caps saw their stretch of eight wins in nine games snapped with back-to-back losses to the Stars and Blackhawks to start the week, but then they finished off the week with bounceback wins over two tough teams in the Hurricanes and Kings. It’s been nice to see them do so well during this recent stretch without Alex Ovechkin, and with the Christmas miracle that is their captain’s return on the horizon, it makes you wonder how much better they can be.

3. Vegas Golden Knights

Record: 22-8-3, +22
Last Week: 4th (+1)
Hunter’s Rank: 3rd
Scott’s Rank: 6th

Hunter: You play the cards you’re dealt, and in their two games against struggling teams, the Golden Knights laid a whopping on both of them. Their win over the Canucks felt like a playoff game — not in terms of the crowd or energy, but in terms of a suffocating defensive performance that saw both teams fight for offensive chances. They opened things up against the Kraken with a 6-2 win, and Jack Eichel is now tied for the second-most assists in the league with 35.

4. Edmonton Oilers

Record: 21-11-2, +16
Last Week: 8th (+4)
Hunter’s Rank: 6th
Scott’s Rank: 3rd

Scott: The Oilers continue to stay red-hot with wins in 11 of their last 13 games, and are looking more and more like the team that made it to the Stanley Cup Final last season (it’s amazing what happens when Stuart Skinner provides replacement-level goaltending). Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was a late scratch from Sunday’s 3-1 win over the Senators, and while they played well without him, the Oilers will have to hope that he’s not out long-term.

Hunter: I thought the Senators had a chance to shake the tree Sunday night before Linus Ullmark left the game (more on that later), but the Oilers played their game and locked it down in the third period. The big names at the top are producing, but guys like Jeff Skinner, Adam Henrique and Corey Perry are generating chances in the bottom-six forward corps.

5. Florida Panthers

Record: 22-11-2, +18
Last Week: 10th (+5)
Hunter’s Rank: 5th
Scott’s Rank: 5th

Hunter: Sources indicate the Panthers sent the Leafs a bouquet of flowers, offering their appreciation for keeping their seat atop the Atlantic Division warm. Winners of four straight and seven of their last nine, Florida has won every way imaginable: a 6-5 slugfest in a repeat of last year’s Stanley Cup Final against the Oilers, 6-1 drubbing of the Wild, a 4-2 nailbiter against the Lightning. They have seven players with at least 20 points who are on pace for at least a 45-point season. You come at the king, you best not miss.

6. Winnipeg Jets

Record: 24-10-1, +41
Last Week: 6th (0)
Hunter’s Rank: 4th
Scott’s Rank: 8th

Scott: Look, I think you know what I’m going to say by now. This Jets team continues to overperform, largely thanks to the play of Connor Hellebuyck (who might just be the guy I named best goaltender of 2024 later today, so stay tuned for that), and unlike most people, I still have my doubts about this team as a legitimate Cup contender. I’ll give them credit for their 5-0 win over the Wild on Saturday, but how does a serious Cup threat not only lose to the Ducks, but get outplayed by them?

Hunter: The same way the Devils could lose to the Blue Jackets, or the Capitals dropping one to the Blackhawks — it’s hockey! You’re not going to beat every bad team every time! I’d be a fool not to give credit to Hellebuyck for the success, but where’s the credit for Mark Scheifele, who’s on pace for his second career 40-goal season? Or Kyle Connor, who’s producing at a rate like his 47-goal campaign in 2021-22? Trying to convince you may be a fool’s errand, but I’d rather be a fool now than in May when they’re about to advance to the Western Conference Final.

Scott: Nope, too bad, they’re still frauds!

7. Minnesota Wild

Record: 20-10-4, +7
Last Week: 3rd (-4)
Hunter’s Rank: 8th
Scott’s Rank: 7th

Scott: The Wild appear to be slipping up for the first time this season, having lost their past four games, albeit with three of them coming to teams off to similar starts to them in the Golden Knights, Panthers and Jets. Perhaps the more concerning part is the fact that the Wild only had four goals in that stretch, and all four of those saw Kirill Kaprizov get a point on them. One of Minnesota’s biggest concerns during their hot stretch was the fact that Kaprizov was driving a lot of production, and that wasn’t even to this extent. The Wild should probably expect similar stretches if this continues down the road.

8. Toronto Maple Leafs

Record: 21-11-2, +13
Last Week: 7th (-1)
Hunter’s Rank: 12th
Scott’s Rank: 4th

Hunter: I don’t know what’s wrong with Auston Matthews, largely because neither he or the club will reveal what’s likely bothered the Leafs’ superstar since last spring. He missed nine games in November and was recently held out of Toronto’s Saturday contest against the Islanders, and there’s no timeline for when he’ll return. I would rather use this space to discuss Max Domi’s recent offensive burst, or Bobby McMann providing secondary scoring, or why Jake McCabe is the team’s best defender. But the way the Leafs operate, calling every injury “day-to-day,” providing no context for fans or media, it gives you little faith as to both the short-term and long-term status of their most important player in franchise history. There’s a larger conversation to be had on this, but for now, I’m left wondering if Toronto should be worried about not having their captain in the lineup for the foreseeable future.

Scott: It reminds me of the start of the “competitive Vlad and Bo” era for the Blue Jays when they would be very vague about injuries and players’ returns, only for us to learn a few days later that they’ll miss a couple more weeks. It does create frustration amongst fans when you keep up charades like this, although hiding injuries does make slightly more sense in a sport with a lot more contact like hockey.

Hunter: It makes the most sense to hide injuries in the NFL, and they’re about as transparent as you could be, largely due to fantasy football and gambling. If the NHL’s television partners are going to promote fantasy segments and teams are going to put betting platform logos on their sweaters, then tell us every injury.

9. Los Angeles Kings

Record: 19-10-5, +16
Last Week: 5th (-4)
Hunter’s Rank: 7th
Scott’s Rank: 10th

Scott: The Kings have lost four of their last six games, but there are still good things to pull from this slump. When they’ve won, they’ve won big with a 5-1 win over the Rangers and a 7-3 win over the Flyers, and when they’ve lost, it’s only by a goal or two. Kevin Fiala also has three goals in his last three games, so the Kings will hope that this might be the start of a return to form for the winger.

10. Tampa Bay Lightning

Record: 18-11-2, +32
Last Week: 9th (-1)
Hunter’s Rank: 9th
Scott’s Rank: 9th

Scott: After winning six of their last seven, the Lightning had a chance to prove me right about saying they were the better Florida team right now with a matchup against the Panthers on Sunday. Well, they lost 4-2 and got outplayed in the game, so there goes that take. There is still a lot to like about this team compared to the past couple of years, and I think they’re comfortably the third-best team in the Atlantic, even with the Bruins and Senators nipping at their heels.

11. Carolina Hurricanes

Record: 21-11-1, +25
Last Week: 11th (0)
Hunter’s Rank: 11th
Scott’s Rank: 12th

Hunter: I loved Carolina’s effort in their three games this week, and aside from a four-minute window against the Capitals, they looked like a Stanley Cup contender for the other 176 minutes. Martin Necas is still on pace for a 133-point season, despite having just one assist in his last five games. I’ll admit I was skeptical of the Hurricanes’ goaltending to start the year, but Pyotr Kochetkov has looked confident in the crease, giving up just eight goals in his last five games.

12. Colorado Avalanche

Record: 21-15-0, +1
Last Week: 13th (+1)
Hunter’s Rank: 10th
Scott’s Rank: 14th

Scott: Life with competent goaltending has been sweet for the Avs. They’ve won seven of their last nine games, and both goalies have been excellent, with Mackenzie Blackwood sporting a .931% save percentage and Scott Wedgewood doing slightly better at .932%. The Avs merely needed replacement-level goaltending to turn things around, so the fact that they’re getting elite goaltending is even better.

13. Dallas Stars

Record: 19-13-0, +19
Last Week: 12th (-1)
Hunter’s Rank: 14th
Scott’s Rank: 11th

Hunter: For all those who complain that today’s netminders are soft and that true No. 1 starters should get the majority of games, look no further than the Stars. Jake Oettinger has started all but one of Dallas’ 10 games in December, as well as 18 of their last 21 games. As for the team itself, they’ve scored just once in four of their last five games and go into next week outside of a Wild Card spot.

14. Boston Bruins

Record: 18-13-4, -17
Last Week: 14th (0)
Hunter’s Rank: 13th
Scott’s Rank: 13th

Hunter: To paraphrase social media legend @dril, you do not, under any circumstances, “gotta hand it” to the Bruins. I was critical of them last week, but they earned points in all three games this week and mostly outplayed the red-hot Oilers in their 3-2 overtime loss on Thursday. Brad Marchand has points in nine straight games and leads the club with 14 goals. All earlier assessments of their demise were, as always, premature and egregious.

Scott: Yeah, I’m not buying a tombstone and a plot of land for their burial until it’s mathematically impossible.

Hunter: That could be a Dril tweet, too.

Scott: This is honestly one of the best compliments I’ve ever received.

15. Pittsburgh Penguins

Record: 15-15-5, -25
Last Week: 17th (+2)
Hunter’s Rank: 16th
Scott’s Rank: 16th

Scott: After winning four games in a row at the end of November and putting themselves back in the playoff conversation, it only makes sense that a team as average as the Penguins would go 4-3-1 in the following eight games. Still, they’re a few points out of a playoff spot and playing much better than at the start of the season, so it will be interesting to see where they go from here.

Hunter: Evgeni Malkin has had one goal in his last eight games, and Anthony Beauvillier’s secondary offense has dried up, scoring two goals in 15 games. He’s not even productive enough to garner a mid-round draft pick in a trade. If Malkin can get going and Kyle Dubas acquires some depth on the wing, they could make a stronger push in the new year.

16. Utah Hockey Club

Record: 16-11-6, +4
Last Week: 18th (+2)
Hunter’s Rank: 18th
Scott’s Rank: 15th

Scott: Utah continues to stay hot thanks to an eight-game point streak, going 6-0-2 in that span, and are back in the playoff conversation. They probably aren’t overly happy at the moment after blowing a 4-1 lead to the Ducks of all teams, but they still kept the point streak by only losing the game in a shootout (and let’s be real, the shootout is just a glorified coin flip at this point). I’m definitely liking what I’m seeing from them a bit more, particularly under the hood.

17. Vancouver Canucks

Record: 16-10-7, -1
Last Week: 19th (+2)
Hunter’s Rank: 17th
Scott’s Rank: 17th

Hunter: I’m already tired of all the discourse around J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, mostly because there isn’t anything unique about it. How many of you have played on a team? Did you get along with every teammate? I don’t think fans really appreciate how many of these “beefs” or arguments happen over the course of a season, and I bet at least once or twice a week, there’s some variation of a “F–k you, no f–k you,” argument in locker rooms around the league. I get it, the Canucks are struggling while playing in a Canadian market. But when you all start scrolling on your phones, you’re worse than a sewing circle

Scott: I once had a teammate slap me in the face during a baseball practice when I was 9 or 10. I still don’t like that person. It happens.

18. Ottawa Senators

Record: 18-14-2, +7
Last Week: 21st (+3)
Hunter’s Rank: 15th
Scott’s Rank: 20th

Hunter: Just two weeks ago, the Senators were struggling and I was calling for Steve Staios to make some sort of Earth-shattering move. Well, they’ve now won six of their last seven and are 8-2-0  in their last 10. A major reason for that hot streak is Ullmark, who going into Sunday’s game against the Oilers was 7-0-0 with a .967 save percentage and 0.99 goals against average in his last seven starts. However, the Ottawa netminder left last night’s game with an upper-body injury, and losing him for a long stretch of time would be devastating to the momentum Ottawa has built.

19. Calgary Flames

Record: 16-11-7, -11
Last Week: 16th (-3)
Hunter’s Rank: 19th
Scott’s Rank: 18th

Hunter: I came into the season with such low expectations for the Flames that any success they achieved would be playing with house money for me. One-goal losses to the Bruins and Senators left a sour taste going into the weekend before a Saturday win over the Blackhawks. Dustin Wolf has been everything advertised; even if he gives up four goals, he isn’t giving up the winning goal and deserves a lot of credit for Calgary’s decent start to 2024-25. This is your weekly reminder that Jonathan Huberdeau is scoring at a 75-point pace.

20. New York Islanders

Record: 13-14-7, -14
Last Week: 15th (-5)
Hunter’s Rank: 20th
Scott’s Rank: 19th

Hunter: I still can’t put my finger on what this club is. They have two seemingly elite goaltenders who are underperforming in 2024-25, but they’re earning enough points that they’re still a two- or three-game winning streak away from sitting in the top half of the Metropolitan Division. My gut tells me they’re going to eventually fall in the standings and eat a chunk of Brock Nelson’s $6 million salary before trading him away for an impressive return. Wait and see.

Scott: For a while, I would have pointed to their impressive defensive metrics, but even those have fallen back a bit. As the candidates for the playoffs in the East continue to grow, it’s getting harder and harder to see the Islanders being one of the teams to make the dance.

21. New York Rangers

Record: 16-16-1, -1
Last Week: 20th (-1)
Hunter’s Rank: 21st
Scott’s Rank: 22nd

Hunter: So much digital ink has been spilled on the Rangers in the last month. You can’t turn on a hockey talk show or open up a website without the latest theory as to what’s aching last season’s Presidents’ Trophy winners. Is this how the rest of the league feels like when the only thing people talk about is the Leafs? New York is 4-12-0 since Nov. 19, and all they’ve got to show for it is two seismic trades and underwhelming performances at every position, minus goalie. The Rangers face the Devils, Lightning, Panthers, Bruins and Capitals in their next five games. That’s plenty of opportunity to play poorly and get the coach fired.

Scott: I understand why they traded away Kappo Kaako, but this team is brutal defensively and dealt one of their few players who was good defensively. That said, Will Borgen might be a solid add to improve their blue line, especially in place of Jacob Trouba.

22. Columbus Blue Jackets

Record: 13-15-6, -11
Last Week: 22nd (0)
Hunter’s Rank: 23rd
Scott’s Rank: 21st

Scott: It keeps getting worse for the Blue Jackets. Not only have they lost nine of their last 11 games, but Zach Werenski left Saturday’s 5-4 loss to the Flyers, and we still don’t know how severe that injury is at the moment. If he misses any time, that will be a huge blow for them with how well he’s played for them this year (and also my fantasy team).

Hunter: And that’s what’s most important. No seriously, it is. I need Joel Eriksson Ek to come back as soon as possible.

Scott: Speaking of fantasy sports, I hope Josh Allen has a terrible night’s sleep and gets caught in traffic before a key playoff game in the coming weeks for what his performance on Sunday did to my fantasy football team. Just don’t make the Sabres pay for his sins; they’ve suffered enough.

23. Philadelphia Flyers

Record: 15-15-4, -18
Last Week: 23rd (0)
Hunter’s Rank: 25th
Scott’s Rank: 24th

Scott: The Flyers are such a perplexing team to me. It seems like every time I look over at them, they’re struggling to put wins together (case in point, they had losses in six of eight games before Saturday’s 5-4 win over the Blue Jackets, on top of the poor start that they had), and yet they’re still four points out of a playoff spot. I wonder how much higher up in the standings they’ll be if they actually play well consistently.

24. St. Louis Blues

Record: 15-16-4, -20
Last Week: 24th (0)
Hunter’s Rank: 24th
Scott’s Rank: 25th

Hunter: I can’t even begin to tell you how badly I wanted to go into the weekend and tell Mr. Maxwell that the Blues defense is actually decent and that Jordan Binnington will simply remember he is the pencilled-in starter for Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off and will step his game up, but I can see that isn’t the case. I still don’t think they’re a bad club, and maybe Joel Hofer deserves more starts, but I’m losing faith in any playoff chances for this group.

Scott: With this defense core? In your dreams.

Hunter: That’s it. I’m BACK on the Blues-to-the-playoffs bandwagon. Cam Fowler? Colton Parayko? Justin Faulk? Phil “The Thrill” Broberg? We’re back, baby!

Scott: You stealing Phil Kessel’s nickname to give it to Broberg reminds me of when a friend used to call Mike Komisarek “The Great 8”. Unfortunately, he was merely joking, while I’m quite afraid that you’re actually serious.

25. Anaheim Ducks

Record: 13-15-4, -19
Last Week: 29th (+4)
Hunter’s Rank: 22nd
Scott’s Rank: 27th

Scott: Genuine question, Hunter; what do you see in this Ducks team to rank them 22nd? Sure, it’s not like you’re calling them a playoff team, but I wouldn’t say they’re good enough to be in no man’s land either, especially considering that they are the worst defensive team by far.

Hunter: I just think they’re neat. I’m under no grand illusion of them getting hot after Christmas and methodically climbing the Pacific Division. Hell, you could say they’re a year away from being a year away. But since they took a whooping Dec. 11 against the Senators, they’ve become one of the more exciting teams to watch, so much so that they’re usually a primary option on my remote for the west coast slate of games. Even during their loss to the Avalanche on Friday, I found myself watching at times thinking, “Is Anaheim outplaying them?” Don’t get it twisted, they’re not a good team, but they’re certainly not as bad as I thought they would be going into the season.

Scott: Lukas Dostal has certainly made them look better than they should, but I just don’t see them going anywhere until after a coaching change.

Hunter: I am with you on that.

26. Detroit Red Wings

Record: 13-16-4, -19
Last Week: 25th (-1)
Hunter’s Rank: 28th
Scott’s Rank: 23rd

Hunter: The Red Wings’ Wednesday 6-4 win over the Flyers was one of the most entertaining games of the season, filled with back-and-forth offense and a Patrick Kane game winner. In fact, Kane went back in time to his Chicago Showtime era with a near-goal line top shelf wrister two days later against the Canadiens. But failing to get any points in a home-and-home with Montreal keeps them near the bottom of the Eastern Conference basement.

27. Nashville Predators

Record: 10-17-7, -26
Last Week: 28th (+1)
Hunter’s Rank: 26th
Scott’s Rank: 26th

Scott: It really puts into perspective the current state of affairs in Nashville when the Preds have only won three of their last five games, and my initial thought was “is there life in this team now?” They weren’t even consecutive wins, it was literally win, loss, win, loss, win! It would take a miracle for them to recover (although who knows with Juuse Saros in net), so I’m certainly excited to see what moves Barry Trotz decides to make as the trade deadline draws closer.

Hunter: I watched their Saturday contest against the Kings live and found myself doing that thing parents do when they’re trying to be overly positive for their young children, muttering “there ya go!” after every scoring chance, or nodding approvingly with the most basic of breakout passes out of the zone. It reminded me of watching Alek Manoah on the mound for the Blue Jays from 2023 onwards. “Not bad!” We’re a looooooonnnng way from all the jubilation of July 1.

28. Seattle Kraken

Record: 15-19-2, -12
Last Week: 26th (-2)
Hunter’s Rank: 27th
Scott’s Rank: 30th

Hunter: The good: recent acquisition Kaapo Kakko scored his first goal with the Kraken on Sunday against the Avalanche. The bad thing is that Seattle lost handly to Colorado 5-2, being outshot 29-19 in the process. The ugly: the Kraken have now lost five straight games, and a few of those games weren’t even close, including a 5-1 beatdown by the Lightning, 3-0 to the Sens and 6-2 to the Golden Knights. I don’t even want to make a Frasier joke, this is just plain ugly, like his father’s worn-out recliner in his living room.

29. Montreal Canadiens

Record: 14-16-3, -21
Last Week: 31st (+2)
Hunter’s Rank: 30th
Scott’s Rank: 28th

Scott: Patrik Laine really is embracing life in Montreal. He currently has eight goals in nine games this year, including five in his last three games, although the more interesting part of that is that all eight have come on the power play. That’s also seen a bit of a turnaround in the Habs’ success as well, as they’ve gone 6-3-0 since his return. That said, they’ve only put up good underlying numbers during their current three-game winning streak, so I wouldn’t get too excited about this team just yet.

Hunter: At this point, I’m just happy they look like they’re having fun again. Montreal is one of a handful of markets where when things are bad, they’re bad, so to see the Bell Centre pop during their blowout wins over the Sabres and Red Wings this past week was a major highlight. I don’t root for Les Habitants, but the league is better when marquee franchises play better.

30. San Jose Sharks

Record: 11-19-6, -31
Last Week: 32nd (+2)
Hunter’s Rank: 31st
Scott’s Rank: 29th

Hunter: They’ve lost four straight and seven of their last eight, and they’ll end up with another lottery pick this summer, but also: goals! Four players are in double digits for goal totals, including 2024 No. 1 overall pick Macklin Celebrini, who has 11 to go with 12 assists for 23 points in just 24 games. No, I don’t think he’s better than 2023 No. 1 overall pick Connor Bedard, but he’s entered the league like a wrecking ball. If you’re on the East Coast, the basement-dwelling Sharks are worth staying up for.

Scott: There’s an overlooked factor into what has allowed Celebrini to hit the ground running in his rookie season: his dad. The man oversees sports science, medicine and performance for the Vancouver Whitecaps and Golden State Warriors, so you just knew that he would know exactly how to prepare his son for the NHL from a physicality standpoint. I think that’s why he looks so much better than Bedard at this current moment, as Bedard is only just learning to get past the wall that most young guns hit physically, while Celebrini came with a wrecking ball to tear it down.

31. Chicago Blackhawks

Record: 12-20-2, -20
Last Week: 30th (-1)
Hunter’s Rank: 29th
Scott’s Rank: 31st

Scott: The Blackhawks are now a solid 4-4-0 under Anders Sorensen, although really only one of those wins was against a strong opponent in the Capitals. On a much more important note for the Blackhawks right now, Connor Bedard has picked up his production a bit more, with 3 goals and 10 points in those 8 games under Sorensen, and they’re giving 2022 first-round pick Frank Nazar some time with the big club as well. The future is certainly a bit less bleaker than it may have been at the time of Luke Richardson’s hiring.

32. Buffalo Sabres

Record: 11-19-4, -22
Last Week: 27th (-5)
Hunter’s Rank: 32nd
Scott’s Rank: 32nd

Scott: This is just sad to watch at this point. How do the Sabres keep doing this to themselves? They’re one loss away from tying their franchise record for longest losing streak, which was also set during their playoff drought in 2014-15! It feels like every few years, this team just has a depressingly sad season that spoils whatever they were trying to rebuild, and then they have to start all over again. The first one in 2014-15 saw them move on from the likes of Thomas Vanek, Jason Pominville and Ryan Miller, the second one in 2021 saw them move on from Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart and Brandon Montour, so what do you even do this time around? It hurts my head trying to think about what needs to be done here, so I do not envy Kevyn Adams right now. Perhaps the best hope is to do as good as you can against the Islanders today and then praying that the Christmas break serves as a good reboot for them.
