Connor Hellebuyck had a regular season to remember in 2024-25, finishing with a 47-12-3 record, a .925 save percentage (SV%) and 2.00 goals against average (GAA) in 63 appearances, helping the Winnipeg Jets win their first Presidents’ Trophy in franchise history and earning a Hart Trophy for Hellebuyck, the first goalie to win the award since 2015.

Hellebuyck, 32, also won the Vezina Trophy for a second-straight season and the third time in his career. The Commerce, Mich., native is the odds-on favorite going into this season, but there are several netminders around the league who could give the four-time All-star a run for his money.

On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discuss the 2025-26 Vezina Trophy race and which netminders could overtake Hellebuyck for the crown of goaltender of the year.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Connor Hellebuyck is the first back-to-back Vezina Trophy winner since Martin Brodeur in 2007 and 2008. No goalie has won three in a row since Dominik Hasek in the later ’90s. Do you think Hellebuyck can? He’s the betting odds favorite, but I don’t know, he’s the best goalie in the league but I don’t know if I want to call him the favorite because winning three in a row is very hard to do.

Carter Hutton: I think that hinders him a bit. The question mark for me is how they’re going to use him this year. He’s a guy that always plays 60 games, and he wants to play. Are they going to take the keys out of his hand, saying they know he wants to play but that he needs to be a better version of himself come playoff time?

I could add Igor Shesterkin to that list, you look for him to have a bounceback year. Andrei Vasilevskiy, Jake Oettinger, but I have a couple longshots that I like this year.
