Sabres sign Noah Ostlund to eight-year extension

The Buffalo Sabres have agreed to terms on an eight-year contract extension with forward Noah Ostlund, the club announced Monday morning. Per the club’s own media release, the deal carries an average annual value of $6.6 million.

Ostlund, 22, spent the majority of the 2025-26 regular season with the Sabres, collecting 11 goals and 27 points in 60 games. The 5’11”, left-shot center added a goal and an assist in three playoff games with the club.

The Sabres originally selected Ostlund in the first round (No. 16 overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft. The Stockholm product still has one year remaining on his entry-level deal, which carries an $886,666 cap hit, before his new deal takes effect in the 2027-28 season.

Ostlund’s new contract could end up being the final eight-year deal handed out before the updated Collective Bargaining Agreement takes effect on Wednesday. Under the terms of the new CBA, all new contracts will be capped at a maximum of seven years.

A product of the Djurgardens system in his native Sweden, Ostlund made the jump to North America in 2024. He skated in his first eight NHL games with the Sabres in the 2024-25 season, being held without a point; the same year, he amassed 19 goals and 36 points in 45 games with the AHL’s Rochester Americans.

Ostlund spent just seven games with Rochester in 2025-26, racking up three goals and 10 points, before becoming a full-time contributor with the Sabres. With his new contract now in hand, he’ll undoubtedly maintain that status in 2026-27 and the years following, as one of the leading members of Buffalo’s youngest cohort alongside Konsta Helenius and Jiri Kulich.

With Ostlund signed, the Sabres now have just one notable forward slated to become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2027: Jack Quinn, who set career highs with 20 goals and 51 points in 82 games with the club in 2025-26.
