Ottawa Charge activate Alexa Vasko off long-term injured reserve
On Monday, the Ottawa Charge announced they had activated forward Alexa Vasko off long-term injured reserve. In response, the team released Taylor House from her standard player agreement, placing her back on the team’s reserve list.
Vasko has been out of the lineup since Dec. 6, when she reportedly suffered an upper-body injury against the Montreal Victoire. It hasn’t been pointed out precisely what the 25-year-old hurt, but it was enough to keep her out of the lineup for over a month.
Vasko is expected to be in the lineup on Tuesday night when the Charge hosts the Toronto Sceptres.
The former member of PWHL Toronto has played just three games so far this season, posting an assist against her former team in a 3-2 win on Dec. 3. Vasko, who signed a one-year contract this past offseason to come to Ottawa, has a plus/minus of +2.
In 27 career games in the PWHL, Vasko has notched two goals and three points.
Prior to the PWHL, the St. Catharines, Ontario native played one season in the PWHPA Dream Gap Tour, which followed a fruitful five-year career at Mercyhurst. As a Laker, Vasko was a three-time captain, scoring 89 points in 156 NCAA games.
House was signed to a SPA when Vasko went down with the injury. The 26-year-old ended up playing in four of the Charge’s next six games, including appearing in the lineup in the team’s 2-1 overtime loss to the Boston Fleet this past Saturday. House averaged a little over five minutes of ice time per game.
House is now eligible to be signed by any of the other five teams in the PWHL, should they choose to add the former Quinnipiac product.
The Charge (4-0-2-3) are tied for third in the PWHL with the New York Sirens, five points back of the Minnesota Frost for first place.
