Ottawa Senators claim Boris Katchouk off waivers from Chicago

The Ottawa Senators have claimed forward Boris Katchouk off waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks.

The 25-year-old has collected five goals and four assists for nine points in 36 games with the Blackhawks this season. He has also spent time in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Blackhawks affiliate the Rockford Ice Hogs scoring three goals and five points in six games.

Katchouk was part of the package that was sent from Tampa to Chicago for Brandon Hagel at the 2022 NHL trade deadline. Katchouk scored five goals and 18 points in 53 games during the 2022-23 campaign. The 6-foot-2, 205 lb winger has appeared in 155 games at the NHL level with Tampa and Chicago, collecting 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points and 78 penalty minutes.

The Vancouver, British Columbia product was originally selected in the second round, No. 44 overall of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He spent parts of four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Soo Greyhounds where he collected 101 goals and 101 assists for 202 points in 199 career games. During the 2017-18 campaign, Katchouk represented Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship scoring three goals and seven points in seven games capturing a gold medal.

Ottawa currently sits eighth in the Atlantic Division with a 25-32-4 record and 54 points through 61 games. The Senators continue their road trip in the Golden State as they take on the San Jose Sharks on Saturday before heading home to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.
