Ottawa Senators goaltender Cam Talbot exited Wednesday night’s 2-1 loss to the New York Islanders with a lower-body injury.

During the second period, Talbot made a routine pad save but seemed to be in some discomfort. He made his way to the bench to talk with the Senators’ training and medical staff. When Talbot exited the game, he was visibly limping as he made his way to the Senators’ locker room.

The 35-year-old netminder has posted an 11-13-1 record through 27 games. He holds a goals-against average (GAA) of 2.95 and a .903 save percentage (SV%). Talbot is in his first season with the Senators since being acquired in an off-season trade with the Minnesota Wild that saw the Sens trade Filip Gustavsson. Last season while with the Wild he played 49 games and posted a 32-12-4 record. He is currently in the final year of a three-year $11 million contract he signed with the Wild in 2020. Talbot will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Backup goaltender Anton Forsberg replaced Talbot. Forsberg is currently in his third season with the Senators. Last year he played in 46 games posting a  22-17-4 record along with a 2.82 GAA and .917 SV%. This season, Forsberg has taken a bit of a back seat while he and Talbot flip games. In 23 games, he’s posted an 8-10-2 record along with a 3.34 GAA and .899 SV%. The Harnosand, Sweden native signed a three-year, $8.25 million extension in March 2022. The contract has an average annual value (AAV) of $2.75 million.
