Senators to host bobblehead night honoring Ridly Greig’s empty-net slapshot against Leafs

An infamous moment in the Battle of Ontario might be getting commemorated in a unique way.
This past Wednesday, the Ottawa Senators announced their promotional calendar for the 2025-26 season. Among the list of events is Jan. 10, when the team will honor an alleged important night in the team’s history with a souvenir bobblehead.
That night, the Sens will host the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers at Canadian Tire Centre. Who the bobblehead will be, or what occasion will be remembered, has not been announced. However, given the graphic shown in the announcement, it looks like there is a player taking a slap shot.
Once again, this is only speculation, but it appears that the Senators might be honoring the moment where forward Ridly Greig hammered home an empty-net goal against the rival Toronto Maple Leafs.
The incident in question happened back on Feb. 10, 2024. Greig had a clear path to an empty cage, looking to seal a victory for the lowly Ottawa team over its provincial foe. Instead of sliding the puck into the goal, Greig wound up and blasted home a slap shot, elating the home crowd, much to the chagrin of the Leafs players and fans in attendance.

— Gino Hard (@GinoHard_) February 11, 2024It spurred a wild scene in the dying seconds of the game, as the usually mild-mannered Morgan Rielly. The Leafs defenseman charged after Greig, cross-checking him in the head.
The incident led to Rielly receiving supplemental discipline for the first time in his NHL career, as he was suspended for five games.
It does seem strange that the Senators wouldn’t hold the bobblehead night when the Leafs are in town (Toronto is hosting the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 10). Then again, with how many Leafs fans make the trip to Kanata whenever their team is in town, it might make sense to not let Leafs Nation get their hands on the supposed item.
