Senators’ Nick Jensen day-to-day with undisclosed injury

A packed weekend schedule with see the Ottawa Senators play back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday, however the club will do so without defenseman Nick Jensen in the lineup, per Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch.

Facing the Atlantic Division rival Boston Bruins on Thursday, Jensen left early in the third period and did not return to action after suffering an undisclosed injury.

Skating in his first season with the Senators, the 34-year-old Minnesotan has made 48 appearances in which he has collected three goals and 15 assists for 18 points to rank third in team scoring among defensemen.

Acquired from the Washington Capitals in a July deal that saw the Senators part with Jakob Chychrun, Jensen is skating in his 10th season following previous stints with the Detroit Red Wings and Capitals. In all, Jensen has totaled 610 career contests in which he has tallied 22 goals and 130 assists for 152 points alongside a plus-32 rating. Jensen was originally chosen by the Red Wings in the fifth round of the 2009 NHL Draft.

Per PuckPedia, Jensen is in the second year of a three-year contract that carries a $4.05-million annual average value.

In Jensen’s absence, the Senators will see veteran rearguard Travis Hamonic re-enter the lineup when the club takes on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Sidelined for the past 10 games due to a lower-body ailment, Hamonic has been limited to 37 appearances in 2024-25 in which he has notched three assists and a minus-10 rating.

The Senators and Maple Leafs have connected once previously this season, a mid-November contest in which Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark turned aside 27 shots en route to 3-0 road victory. Entering Saturday action, the Senators sit 24-20-4 and one point behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wildcard position in the Eastern Conference.
