On Monday, the Ottawa Senators announced they have signed forward David Perron to a two-year contract. 

The deal will be worth $8 million and come with a $4 million average annual value beginning in 2024-25. 

Perron is a veteran forward who has played over 1,000 NHL games.

In 17 seasons with the St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Vegas Golden Knights and Detroit Red Wings, Perron has racked up 1,131 NHL career regular-season games. The 36-year-old has 768 points (310 goals, 548 assists) and a plus-2 rating in his career. He has 61 points (24 goals, 37 assists) in 104 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.

In 2023-24, Perron recorded 47 points (17 goals, 30 assists) in 76 games with the Red Wings. He has shown the ability to produce in a bottom-six role in the latter part of his career, tallying over 45 points in each of the past eight seasons. His career-high season came in 2017-18 when he tallied 66 points (16 goals, 50 assists) in 70 games with the Golden Knights

Perron was originally drafted by St. Louis in the first round (No. 26) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He played his first six seasons with the Blues and eventually spent three separate tenures with St. Louis during his career. In 673 games with the Blues, Perron has 465 points (196 goals, 269 assists). He ranks ninth on the franchise list in games played.

In 2018-19, Perron was a huge part of the Blues’ first Stanley Cup championship. After tallying 46 points (23 goals, 23 assists) in only 57 regular-season games, the veteran added 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) and a plus-4 rating in 26 playoff games. 

The Senators have missed the playoffs in each of the past seven seasons. They are a team looking to get back in the playoff picture in the middle of a busy Eastern Conference.
