The Florida Panthers announced on social media that defenseman Adam Boqvist left Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins and would not return.

Boqvist left the game after taking a puck to the face off a clearing attempt by Bruins’ defenseman Brandon Carlo.

The 24-year-old is in his sixth NHL season after spending the first chunk of his career with the Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets. Last season with the Blue Jackets, Boqvist had a goal and nine assists for 10 points in just 35 regular-season games.

Taken No. 8 overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Boqvist has scored 23 goals and 62 assists for 85 points and 40 penalty minutes in 209 career regular-season games.

Before turning pro, Boqvist spent the 2018-19 season with the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights, scoring 20 goals and 40 assists for 60 points in 54 regular-season games. That spring he would score 10 goals and three assists for 13 points in just 11 playoff games.

The Panthers won their first Stanley Cup championship in franchise history last season, defeating the Edmonton Oilers in seven games in the final. The team went 52-24-6 in the regular season, winning the Atlantic Division.

Forward Sam Reinhart led the team with 57 goals, adding 37 assists for 94 points. Teammate Matthew Tkachuk led the way in assists with 62, and Sergei Bobrovsky posted a 36-17-4 record with a .915 save percentage and 2.37 goals against average.

In the postseason, both Tkachuk and captain Aleksander Barkov recorded 22 points, with forward Carter Verhaeghe right behind them with 21 points.
