Some organizational depth up front for the defending Stanley Cup Champions.

On Friday, the Florida Panthers announced they have re-signed forward Patrick Giles to a two-year, two-way contract.

Giles has been with the Panthers organization since signing out of college late in the 2021-22 season. He has spent his entire two-plus year professional career with Florida’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.

This past season was the 24-year-old’s best in his young career. In 66 games, he scored 13 goals and 23 points, helping the Checkers advance to the Calder Cup Playoffs for the third straight season. His 13 goals were sixth-most on the team. In 148 career appearances, Giles has totaled 16 goals and 21 assists, including three points in 17 playoff games.

Giles went undrafted after playing two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development program, scoring 23 goals and 30 assists in 179 games. He went on to join the prestigious Boston College Eagles. In four seasons in Chestnut Hill, the Chevy Chase, Maryland native scored 22 goals and 23 assists for 45 points in 108 games, and was on the team that won the Hockey East regular-season championship during the 2019-20 campaign. He was also the alternate captain in his junior and senior seasons.

Giles has also represented his country on the international stage. Along with playing for the USNTDP, he helped the Americans take home the silver medal at the 2018 IIHF Men’s Under-18 World Championship.

With the signing, the Panthers have 34 players under standard player contracts for next season, including 19 forwards. According to CapFriendly, Florida has around $19.5 million in projected cap space. Players like Sam Reinhart, Nick Cousins and Ryan Lomberg are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents if the team does not sign them by next Monday.
