A young center is heading north, along with some collateral.

On Tuesday, the Nashville Predators traded forward Cody Glass, along with two draft picks, to the Pittsburgh Penguins for forward Jordan Frasca.

The picks heading to Pittsburgh are the Preators’ sixth-round pick in 2026, along with the Minnesota Wild’s third-round pick in 2025. Nashville received that pick from the Philadelphia Flyers at the 2024 NHL Draft. Philly got it from Minnesota to move up to draft Zeev Buium 12th overall.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was the first to report the deal.

The 25-year-old is heading into the final year of a two-year contract that he signed with the Predators last July. Glass has a cap hit of $2.5 million before becoming a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.

Glass has spent the last three seasons in Nashville since he was dealt to the Preds by the Vegas Golden Knights for Nolan Patrick in July 2021. The most games he played in one season in the Music City was during the 2022-23 campaign, in which the Winnipeg native appeared in 72 games, setting career highs in goals (14), assists (21) and points (35). It is the only time that he has registered over 20 points in an NHL season.

In 2023-24, Glass struggled to get into the lineup, as he was a healthy scratch for a lot of the season. He played in 41 games, notching six goals and seven assists with a plus/minus of -9. With Glass being just 25 years old, a change of scenery might be the recipe for him to get a fresh start with a Penguins team that is trying to retool.

In 187 career NHL games across five seasons, Glass has registered 29 goals and 42 assists for 71 points, with a -1 rating. The former Portland Winterhawk also spent time with the Golden Knights and Predators’ American Hockey League affiliates, the Chicago Wolves and Milwaukee Admirals, scoring 22 goals and 57 assists in 88 games, including 24 points in 31 Calder Cup Playoff games.

Glass was the first-ever draft pick of the Golden Knights, as he was taken sixth overall of the 2017 NHL Draft.

Glass has represented his country on a few occasions. Along with playing on Canada’s Under-17 and Under-18 teams, he played at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship. Glass made his senior national team debut at the 2023 IIHF Men’s World Championship, helping Canada win the gold medal.

Frasca was signed by the Penguins out of junior hockey. The former Kingston Frontenac has never played in the NHL, having spent the last two seasons splitting time between Pittsburgh’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and their ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers. Frasca has one more year on his current contract, with a cap hit of $859,167.
