The Pittsburgh Penguins have activated forward Bryan Rust off the injured reserve. Rust will play Friday vs. Washington Capitals.

Rust has tallied four points in eight games this season after missing time at the start of the year with injuries.

Rust tallied 28 goals and 28 assists for 56 points in 62 games during the 2023-24 season with Pittsburgh. The 32-year-old suffered injuries throughout the season which held him out of the lineup for about 20 games.

Rust was a third-round, No. 80 overall pick of the Penguins in the 2010 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut during the 2014-15 season, he’s spent the entirety of his 10-season NHL career with the Pens.

The Pontiac, Michigan native won back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships with the Penguins in 2016 and 2017. Rust is currently in the third year of a six-year deal with a $5.125 million cap hit that he signed with the Penguins in the 2022 offseason.

Meanwhile, the Penguins have placed Cody Glass on the injured reserve with an upper-body injury.

Glass has tallied four assists in 14 games so far during the 2024-25 campaign. The Nashville Predators traded Glass along with two draft picks, to the Penguins for forward Jordan Frasca.

The 25-year-old is heading into the final year of a two-year contract that he signed with the Predators last July. Glass has a cap hit of $2.5 million before becoming a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.

Forward Kevin Hayes is considered day-to-day and will not play Friday vs. Washington. Hayes has tallied three goals and four points in 14 games.
