Penguins’ Marcus Pettersson out week-to-week with lower-body injury

Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan announced that defenseman Marcus Pettersson will be out week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Pettersson left Saturday’s overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators favoring his left leg after a hit into the boards.

Matt Grzelcyk has moved up to the second pairing with Erik Karlsson to makeup for Pettersson’s absence.

In 32 games this season, Pettersson has two goals, 11 assists. Last season, the Swedish defender tallied four goals and 26 assists for 30 points in 82 games.

The Skelleftea, Sweden native is currently in year three of a five-year $20.1 million extension he signed in 2020. His contract has a cap hit of $4.025 million.

Pettersson has appeared in 476 games with the Penguins and Anaheim Ducks throughout his career tallying 16 goals and 130 assists 146 points.

Pittsburgh is currently sixth in the Metropolitan Division with a 13-14-5 record and 31 points in 32 games this season.

The Penguins are slated to face off against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, the Nashville Predators on Thursday and the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.
