Sidney Crosby records 1,000th assist, moves to 10th on NHL all-time points list
With a goal and two assists in Thursday night’s game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings, Sidney Crosby achieved two accomplishments: he became the 14th player in NHL history to record his 1,000th career assist, and he passed Phil Phil Esposito for 10th on the NHL’s all-time points list.

The Penguins won the game 6-5 in overtime, with Crosby’s 1,000th assist coming on Erik Karlsson’s OT-winner. The two teams entered the game with 84 points, and with the win, the Penguins now have 86 and possess the No. 2 Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh is 7-0-3 in their last 10 games.

The 36-year-old Crosby now has 41 goals and 48 assists for 89 points in 79 games with the Penguins this season. With one more point, Crosby would have eight career seasons with 90 or more points.
In 19 NHL seasons, Crosby has 591 goals and 1,000 assists for 1,591 career points. In 180 career playoff games, Crosby has 71 goals and 130 assists for 201 career points.
Earlier this month, Crosby had a three-point outing in a 5-2 win over the New York Rangers, tying him with Wayne Gretzky with his 19th consecutive point-per-game season.

Earlier this week, the National Hockey League Players’ Association released its 2023-24 edition of its annual Player Poll, and for the fifth consecutive season, Crosby was named the most complete player in the league by his peers with nearly 40 percent of the vote.
