The Philadelphia Flyers made a couple of changes to their hockey operations staff this week, bringing in Bob Murray as a Senior Advisor and former NHLer Dany Heatley as a pro scout.

Murray, 68, resigned as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Anaheim Ducks in 2021 following an investigation by the NHL surrounding his professional conduct. However, Murray was later hired by the Calgary Flames as a scout. He spent 16 years with the Ducks organization, beginning in 2005-06, when he joined as Senior Vice President of Hockey Ops. Murray captured a Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2006-07, and in 2013-14, he was named the NHL GM of the Year.

Heatley, 42, joins the Flyers in his first staffing position at the NHL level. Charlie O’Connor of The Athletic was the first to report on this back in July.

The former all-star spent 13 years in the NHL, appearing in 869 games with the Atlanta Thrashers, Ottawa Senators, San Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks, where he collected 372 goals and 419 assists for 791 points. Heatley is famously known for scoring ’50-in-07′, which has become a trademark of his career. He won the Calder Trophy in his rookie year after totalling 67 points in 82 games with the Thrashers.

The Flyers have also brought in Greg Chase, the nephew of former NHL enforcer Kelly Chase. Chase, 28, played five years in the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 2011 to 2015 with the Calgary Hitmen and Victoria Royals, where he compiled 221 points in 265 career games. Chase recently worked alongside GM Danny Briere with the Maine Mariners of the ECHL.

Meanwhile, also joining the scouting staff are former Gatineau Olympiques scout Daniel Tremblay and former NHLer Mike Eastwood, who will replace Dave Brown as Director of Pro Scouting. Eastwood appeared in 738 games with Toronto, Winnipeg, Phoenix, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins. He most recently was a pro scout for the Ducks for the last two years.
