The team also announced that Dylan Crawford would join the club as a video coach.
“I’m happy to have rounded out my coaching staff by bringing Todd and Dylan on board,” said Tocchet in a team statement. “Todd’s extensive experience across all levels of coaching, as well as his success throughout his career, will play a pivotal role in all facets of our game.”
The 53-year-old Reirden has spent 14 years as an NHL coach, serving as both an assistant and associate coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins between 2020 and 2024, where he served as their power-play boss. Before that, he spent six seasons with the Washington Capitals between 2014-15 and 2019-20, including two as the head coach in 2018-19 and 2019-20. He helped the Caps win a Stanley Cup in 2018.
As a player, Reirden played five seasons as a defenseman between the Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Atlanta Thrashers and Phoenix Coyotes, scoring 11 goals and 35 assists for 46 points and 181 penalty minutes in 183 career regular-season NHL games.
The Flyers finished the 2024-25 season with a 33-39-10 record and 76 points, last in both the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference, and tied for the fourth-worst record in the league.
