If Lycksell were to clear waivers on Tuesday, he could be re-assigned to the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
The 25-year-old has spent a decent amount of time with the Flyers compared to his first two seasons with the organization. Lycksell appeared in a career-high 19 games with Philadelphia this season after playing in 18 contests during the 2023-24 campaign. He has notched five assists this season, including points in back-to-back games late last month. He’s averaged just under 12 minutes per game, registering a plus/minus of -3.
Lycksell’s last bit of NHL action came on March 31, when the Flyers defeated the Nashville Predators, 2-1. He’s in the final year of a two-year contract he signed with Philly in July 2023. The deal has a cap hit of $787,500, with Lycksell set to be a Group 6 unrestricted free agent.
If Lycksell were to head back down to the minors, the Phantoms would welcome him back with open arms. Despite going up and down between the AHL and NHL this season, he has been a consistent scoring threat for Lehigh Valley, leading the team with 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points despite playing just 40 games. He was named to the Atlantic Division roster for the 2025 AHL All-Star Classic.
With Lycksell back in the lineup, the Phantoms have a needed scoring punch back in their lineup just in time for the Calder Cup Playoffs.
The Swedish winger has played 45 NHL games in his career, scoring one goal and 10 assists for 11 points, with a career rating of -6. In 131 AHL games, he’s posted 50 goals and 75 assists for 125 points, including another eight points in nine postseason affairs.
Lycksell was originally taken by the Flyers in the sixth round, 168th overall, of the 2017 NHL Draft.
The Flyers (31-37-9) are last in the Metropolitan Division, tied for the worst record in the Eastern Conference. The Phantoms (33-27-8) are sixth in the AHL’s Atlantic Division, the last playoff spot in the division.
