A little bit of significant business has been done by Daniel Briere.

According to multiple reports, the Philadelphia Flyers have re-signed defenseman Cam York to a five-year contract. The deal carries an AAV of $5.15 million through the 2029-30 season.

Chris Maher of The Chris Maher Show was the first to report the news on Monday morning, with the team confirming it later on.

It’s a hefty bump in pay for the former Michigan Wolverine. York was coming off a two-year bridge deal, which had a cap hit of $1.6 million. He was a pending restricted free agent with arbitration rights.

York has been a part of the Flyers organization since the team took him in the first round, 14th overall, of the 2019 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut during the COVID-shortened 2021 season and started making significant strides over the next couple of years with the Flyers and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

The Anaheim native became a full-time NHLer during the 2023-24 campaign, appearing in all 82 games, setting career highs in goals (10), assists (20) and points (30). He was part of a Philadelphia team that narrowly missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs, falling out of contention on the final day of the regular season.

Things didn’t go so well for the Flyers or York this past season. Along with the team finishing last in the Metropolitan Division, finishing tied with the Boston Bruins for the worst record in the Eastern Conference, York found himself out of the lineup quite a few times. Along with an upper-body injury that kept him out of action for close to a month, the 24-year-old missed a few games late in the season as a healthy scratch.

In 66 appearances, he scored four goals and 13 assists for 17 points, posting a plus/minus of -8 while averaging 20:47 of ice time.

In 235 career games with the Flyers, York has notched 19 goals and 58 assists for 77 points.

According to CapWages, the Flyers are projected to have less than $1.2 million in cap space next season.
