Philadelphia Flyers sign Egor Zamula to one-year contract extension
The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenseman Egor Zamula to a one-year contract worth $775,000 for the 2023-24 NHL season.
The 23-year-old blueliner played a career-high 14 games with the club this year, registering four assists. He had zero points in 12 NHL games over the previous two years. Zamula has played most of his pro career with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms, recording one goal and 19 points this year. He had a career-high four goals and 29 points in 2021-22 and has 54 points over 127 total games in three seasons.
A big, physical blueliner, Zamula’s best offensive action came while in junior. He was a point-per-game player in his final year with the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen and was a big part of Russia’s blueline during the 2020 World Junior Championship. Zamula was never drafted to the NHL, instead signing an entry-level contract in 2018.
The Flyers currently have 12 defensemen signed for next year, with a few others set to become free agents. Zamula likely won’t be a full-time NHLer next season, but will continue to give the team depth options in case of injuries. The Flyers, who missed the playoffs this season, still has to sign RFA Cam York after his entry-level deal expires later this year.
