The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward Garnet Hathaway to a two-year contract extension, the club announced Monday afternoon.

Hathaway, 32, collected seven goals and 17 points in 82 games with the Flyers during the 2023-24 regular season. He originally joined the Flyers in 2023 on a two-year, $2.375 million AAV contract.

According to the Flyers release, Hathaway’s new contract will carry a $2.4 million cap hit in the 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons, after which he’ll be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent.

“Garnet has been a great addition to our team and we’re very happy to extend him to be a Flyer for the next several seasons,” Flyers general manager Danny Brière said Monday. “His style of play and level of professionalism had a big effect on our group last season, and he embodies the standard our team set out to build both on and off the ice.”

The Calgary Flames originally signed Hathaway in 2015 as an undrafted free agent out of Brown University in the NCAA. He spent one season on an AHL contract with the Adirondack Flames before being upgraded to an NHL deal.

Hathaway made his NHL debut with the Flames in the 2015-16 season and established himself as an NHL regular in the 2017-18 season before signing a four-year deal with the Washington Capitals as a free agent in 2019. Nearing the end of his fourth and final season in D.C., Hathaway was dealt to the Boston Bruins alongside Dmitry Orlov at the 2023 trade deadline.

After being born in Naples, Florida, Hathaway moved to Kennebunkport, Maine at a young age. The 6’2″ winger has appeared in 539 career NHL games over parts of nine seasons with the Flames, Capitals, Bruins, and Flyers, collecting 65 goals and 139 points; he’s added three goals and six points in 31 playoff contests.
