On Friday, Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Briere announced the team has signed defenseman Helge Grans to a two-year contract.

The deal is a two-way contract for next season, becoming a one-way deal for the 2026-27 season. It will carry an NHL AAV of $787,500 over the two years.

It’s a little pay cut for the Swedish blueliner, as he just came to the end of his three-year, entry-level contract, which carried an AAV of $902,500.

The 23-year-old was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round, 35th overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft. After spending two seasons with the Kings’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Ontario Reign, he was traded to the Flyers in June 2023 as part of the deal that sent defenseman Ivan Provorov from Philadelphia to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Grans has played the majority of his first two years with the Flyers organization as a member of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Philadelphia’s primary affiliate. This past year was one of his best in North American pro hockey, scoring a career-high eight goals, posting 23 assists in 66 games. The Ljungby native added another three points in seven games during the Calder Cup Playoffs.

On top of a solid season in the AHL, Grans made his NHL debut with the Flyers on Nov. 18, registering an assist against the Colorado Avalanche. He would play five more games with the Flyers before being sent back down to Lehigh Valley for the rest of the season.

In 237 career AHL appearances, Grans has scored 18 goals and 46 assists for 64 points, along with five points in 16 postseason games.

According to CapWages, the Flyers will have a little over $29 million of cap space for next season.
