Philadelphia Flyers sign Jett Luchanko to entry-level contract

Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Daniel Brière announced that the club has agreed to terms with 2024 first-round pick Jett Luchanko on a three-year, entry-level contract.

Luchanko was selected No. 13 overall in the 2024 NHL Draft in Las Vegas.

Luchanko spent the 2023-24 season with the Guelph Storm in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and compiled 20 goals and 54 assists for 74 points in 68 games. Luchanko’s tenacity and work ethic have been something that scouts have talked about, a reason for his stock rising so much this year.

The 17-year-old led all Strom skaters in points and 1.09 points per game. His season earned him a spot on Canada’s Under-18 Men’s Worlds squad, and he tallied two goals and five assists for seven points in seven games.

If you watched the OHL and, specifically, Storm games, it’s no surprise that in the recent OHL coach’s poll, Luchanko was voted in the top three as the smartest and hardest-working player from the Western Conference. Luchanko is a smooth playmaker who is the play driver every time and displays great hands in tight spaces.

Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis, rated Luchanko as the No. 36 best-ranked prospect.

“I was initially concerned about his size – 5-foot-11, 170 pounds. I would like to see more muscle on him. However, after he put up more than 50 assists this year, I’m really impressed with his vision and hockey IQ. Luchanko excels in creating opportunities on the power play, primarily as a playmaker. He also has a great shot, although I wish he would use it more often.”

Luchanko joins a prospect pool in Philadelphia that Matvei Michkov highlights and consists of Denver Barkey, Oliver Bonk, Alexei Kolosov and more.
