Flyers sign Oscar Eklind to one-year extension

On Thursday, Philadelphia Flyers general manager Danny Briere announced the team has re-signed forward Oscar Eklind to a one-year contract extension.
Eklind just finished up the one-year contract he signed with the Flyers in April of last year. It has an NHL cap hit of $950,000 and a minor-league salary of $83,000. According to PuckPedia, his new AAV is $800,000, matching the same deal signed by fellow forward Rodrigo Abols earlier this week.
The 2024-25 campaign was Eklind’s first in North America. the Trelleborg, Sweden native spent the entire season with the Flyers American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms
In 64 games with the Phantoms, Eklind scored five goals and 17 assists for 22 points, finishing tied for seventh on the team in assists with Abols. He also scored a goal in the Atlantic Division Semifinals against the Hershey Bears, the primary affiliate of the Washington Capitals.
Despite winning a first-round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins’ top farm team, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Lehigh Valley came up short against the two-time defending Calder Cup champions, losing to the Bears in five games.
Prior to signing with the Flyers, Eklind had spent his entire career in his homeland, bouncing around the Swedish Hockey League and HockeyAllsvenskan, the second tier of pro hockey in Sweden. He last played for Luleå HF in 2023-24, scoring 28 points in 48 games. Though he spent a brief time with the senior Malmö Redhawks squad, Eklind was able to participate in the Champions Hockey League in 2017-18, with the RedHawks being eliminated by Czech Extraliga side Oceláři Třinec in the Round of 16.
In 176 SHL appearances, Eklind scored 32 goals and 29 assists for 61 points. In 191 HockeyAllsvenskan games, he notched 33 goals and 39 assists for 72 points.
The 26-year-old has also represented his country over his career, playing for Sweden in the EuroHockey Tour in 2022-23 and 2023-24, along with playing for Tre Kronor in various international events in the past.
