We have our first trade during the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

The Minnesota Wild acquired the No. 12 pick from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for the No. 13 pick and a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

At No. 12, the Wild would select defenseman Zeev Buium from the University of Denver.

Meanwhile, at No. 13, the Flyers selected Guelph Storm center Jett Luchanko.

Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli confirmed the trade before it was announced.

The 18-year-old native of San Diego, Calif., was a freshman for the University of Denver in 2023-24, scoring 11 goals and 39 assists for 50 points in 39 games.

Everyone he’s gone, Buium has won, winning gold with the U.S. at the 2023 U-18 World Championship, then followed it the following season with a National Championship for Denver. His 50-point season is one of the most productive seasons for a freshman defender in college hockey history.

As for Luchanko, the Flyers announced his selection with the help from Philadelphia native, legendary boxing announcer Michael Buffer.

The London, Ont., native finished with 20 goals and 54 assists for 74 points in 68 games. Ellis had Luchanko at No. 25 in his final rankings, but the Flyers will love his vision and hockey IQ.

“Luchanko does an excellent job in extra space on the power play, working mainly as a distributor,” Ellis wrote. “He has a great shot, too, although I wish he’d use it more. The thing that helps him here is a non-stop motor that works at both ends of the ice. There’s some middle-six potential here.”
