Philip Broberg is looking good for the Blues after offseason offer sheet
We may be only seven games in to Philip Broberg’s tenure with the St. Louis Blues after he was acquired in the summer via an offer sheet, but so far it’s been looking excellent for the Blues. He managed to get a point in his first six games with the team before his streak was ended on Tuesday, giving him six points in seven games on the year. And on the other side of that deal, the Edmonton Oilers have been off to a sluggish start and could probably use the help on defense.
Frank Seravalli talked on Daily Faceoff Live about Broberg’s start to the year and how the offer sheet has paid off for the Blues so far.
Frank Seravalli: I guess everyone in Edmonton can breathe a sigh of relief now that you know Philip Broberg won’t go all 82 games getting a point this season. The streak was broken. It was pretty nice to start and really impressive for Broberg who, ultimately at the end of the day, the Oilers are going to rue the decision to not match his offer sheet. I think Holloway was a bit of a different story, as he’s a guy that’s much more easily replaceable in the long run for that team.
But to have a guy that I think is a ready-made top four defensemen at the NHL right now that could continue to grow. I understand the decision-making process and why they ended up there, but I think for a guy that really asked for and clamored for more opportunity throughout his time in Edmonton, I think it is pretty well deserved because when he finally did get it and was shown some trust in the last year and the playoffs, he was great. And this year he picked up right where he left off.
