Penguins select Bill Zonnon No. 22 overall in 2025 NHL Draft

The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Bill Zonnon with the 22nd overall pick Friday night at The Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The Penguins received the 22nd overall pick, as well as the 31st selection in this year’s draft, in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers earlier in the night in exchange for the No. 12 pick. The Flyers took Jack Nesbitt with their selection.
Zonnon spent the 2024-25 season with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), where he tallied 28 goals and 55 assists for 83 points in 64 games. Zonnon’s 55 assists led all Huskies skaters, while he ranked second in points.
Zonnon has skill with the puck, using the open space to make himself available with a cannon of a shot. When he has the time and space, he will unleash his quick wrist shot.
The Huskies traded the Montreal native to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, where Zonnon will play next season. Zonnon has appeared in 195 QMJHL games, scoring 62 goals and 118 assists for 180 points.
Zonnon represented Canada White at the Under-17 World Hockey Championships in 2022-23, where he tallied one goal and three points in six games. While Zonnon did not make Canada’s Under-18 squad, he could make a push for the World Juniors team this winter.
Zonnon ranked No.31 on Steven Ellis’ Final Top-120 Draft rankings. “I like Zonnon. He’s very energetic, a tremendous playmaker and is looking more comfortable as a shooter, too. He’s physical, smart and is an excellent passer who can do some dangerous things with the puck. When he has the puck, he makes things happen in open space. Without it, he creates space for his teammates and he gets himself to the net. It feels like Zonnon has been underappreciated and that he deserves more attention for his work ethic and tremendous vision. He’s the type of player you can stick with other high-end talents and find success. I can see him going 10 spots higher in this draft if a team thinks they can mold him into something they need.”
