Penguins could move one of their two first-round picks on draft day

The 2025 NHL Entry Draft takes place Friday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The Pittsburgh Penguins have the 11th and 12th overall picks, and rumours are swirling that they may be willing to move on from one of those picks for a young player.
On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the Penguins’ draft options and if they’re move one of their first-round picks.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Outside of the top 10, you see the Penguins at 11 and 12. There was some talk they’d be willing to move one of those picks for a good, cost-controlled young forward. Smoke or fire on that front?
Frank Seravalli: I think there’s definitely fire there. Look, in the end, the Penguins really need young, significant contributors. Perhaps the only way to get those is to draft, but what a lot of these teams are running into is it’s great to have picks and multiple picks, but there’s a lot of teams don’t really love the draft board.
They’re saying, “In the current position that we’re in, we’re going to really have to grow to love the player that we select, instead of being over the moon in picking them,” which is not the usual feel for an NHL Draft, and it definitely wouldn’t be the feel for the 2026 draft.
Tyler Yaremchuk: You were plural there when you said “young contributors to the Penguins lineup.” Does that make it more likely that Dubas makes a trade? They don’t need to be picky in terms of the kind of forward they’re getting. They’re can’t turn up their nose at a Marco Rossi and say, “Well he’s small, he doesn’t really fit with what we’re doing,” because there’s not a lot there.
Frank Seravalli: But you want a foundation. If you’re moving assets, you want foundational pieces that are going to be part of your team for a long time. Again, I think Rossi is a great, supporting player, but I don’t think anyone is going to say “Rossi is going to be our second-line center for the next 10 years.”
