Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry to miss Thursday’s game with lower-body injury
Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry will miss Thursday’s game against the Dallas Stars while he deals with a lower-body injury, according to Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan.
Casey DeSmith will start in goal for Pittsburgh against the Stars. Dustin Tokarski, recalled from the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, is en route to American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX to serve as DeSmith’s backup.
The Penguins have also recalled forward Filip Hallander from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Pittsburgh and Dallas are set to face off at 9:00 p.m. ET on Thursday.
Jarry, 27, has a 21–10–6 record and a .908 save percentage in 40 games with the Penguins this year. The six-foot-two goaltender, who catches left, is under contract at a $3.5 million cap hit through the end of the 2022–23 season, at which point he’ll be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent.
The Penguins originally selected Jarry in the second round (No. 44 overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft. The Surrey, B.C. product made his NHL debut with the Penguins during the 2016–17 season and emerged as the club’s most frequent backup during their 2018 Stanley Cup campaign.
Through 199 career NHL games over parts of seven regular seasons with the Penguins, Jarry has amassed a 114–57–19 record with a .913 save percentage and a 2.65 goals-against average. He’s posted a 2–6 record and an .891 save percentage in eight playoff contests.
The Penguins currently rank fifth in the Metropolitan Division with a 35–26–10 record in 71 games this season.
