Kyle Dubas will lead Team Canada at the upcoming IIHF World Championship as on Thursday he was announced as the team’s general manager for the tournament, set for May 9–25 in Sweden and Denmark.

In all, it marks the second straight year in which the Pittsburgh Penguins GM will be involved in the tournament. Last year, Dubas served as Canada’s associate GM en route to a fourth-place finish, while more recently the 39-year-old native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., joined Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off as director of player personnel.

Alongside Dubas, Boston Bruins director of pro scouting Dennis Bonvie, Florida Panthers assistant GM Gregory Campbell, Colorado Avalanche special assistant to the GM Andrew Cogliano, and Penguins assistant GM Jason Spezza will assist with roster evaluation and player selection.

“Kyle has great relationships with players and staff throughout the NHL, and as a member of the management group for the 2026 Olympics, we are confident he is the best person to lead Team Canada this May while leaning on the expertise of Dennis, Gregory, Andrew, and Jason,” Executive Director of Canada’s National Men’s Team and St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong said in a statement.

Currently in his second season at the helm of the Penguins, Dubas previously served as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2018-23. With the Maple Leafs, Dubas oversaw a lone series win in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, coming in 2023 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. As GM of the AHL affiliated Toronto Marlies, Dubas led the franchise to its first-ever Calder Cup championship in 2018.

In returning to the World Championship, Canada will be in search of its 29th gold medal, with its most recent coming in 2023. Canada has also collected 16 silver medals and nine bronze medals at the World Championship.
