Penguins sign Boko Imama to one-year contract extension

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Friday that the club has signed left winger Boko Imama to one-year contract extension worth $775,000.
Through 16 appearances with the Penguins in 2024-25, Imama finished with one goal coupled with 30 penalty minutes and a plus-two rating. Imama also saw 24 showings with the AHL affiliated Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in which he tallied three goals and two assists for five points with 47 penalty minutes and a minus-one mark.
A veteran of 31 career contests, Imama previously saw NHL action with the former Arizona Coyotes as well as the Ottawa Senators. In all, the 28-year-old Montreal native has two career goals to his credit. Imama has also skated part of eight seasons in the AHL where through 334 career contests he has notched 32 goals and 45 assists for 77 points. With the Tucson Roadrunners in 2022-23, he finished with a career-high 15 points counting five goals and 10 assists coming in 50 games, while in the previous campaign he led the entire AHL with 178 penalty minutes in 54 appearances.
A QMJHL graduate, Imama spent five seasons in the junior circuit from 2012-17, highlighted by a President’s Cup championship coming with the Saint John Sea Dogs in his final season. In all, through 276 regular-season contests in the QMJHL, Imama registered 123 points counting 71 goals and 52 assists. Imama finished with a career-high 55 points in 66 games with the Sea Dogs in 2016-17.
With Imama signed, the Penguins now have three players of note who can become unrestricted free agents as of July 1, according to PuckPedia, a list which includes forwards Matt Nieto and Joona Koppanen as well as defenseman Matt Grzelcyk. Meanwhile, five players are pending restricted free agents counting forwards Connor Dewar, Vasily Ponomarev, and Philip Tomasino, as well as defensemen Pierre-Olivier Joseph and Conor Timmins.
