Pittsburgh Penguins President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas announced Sunday that the club has signed Chase Pietila to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The contract will begin in the 2025-26 season and run through 2027-28. Pietila was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the fourth round, No. 111 overall in the 2024 NHL Draft. After being drafted by Pittsburgh last July, he attended the Penguins NHL Development Camp.

The Howell, Michigan native spent the 2024-25 campaign with Michigan Tech in the NCAA serving as an alternate captain. Pietila notched seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points in 38 games, leading all Michigan Tech defensemen, and his 26:37 time-on-ice average ranked third in the NCAA.

In two seasons with Michigan Tech, Pietila scored 10 goals and added 34 assists for 44 points in 76 career NCAA games, putting up identical numbers in both seasons. Pietila scored in the CCHA Mason Cup Championship Game, helping lead the Huskies to their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

Prior to his NCAA tenure, Pietila spent three seasons in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Lincoln Stars and the Youngstown Phantoms. During the 2022-23 season, Pietila helped the Phantoms win the USHL Clark Cup championship, that season he tallied 36 points in 60 games. His 36 points ranked him second among Phantoms’ defenders. During his three seasons, Pietila scored eight goals and 50 points in 164 regular season games.

Pietila is the fourth player from the 2024 Penguins draft class to sign an entry-level contract including Harrison Brunicke, Finn Harding and Tanner Howe.
