History is within sight for one of the greatest players in NHL history.

After scoring his 38th goal of the season, and 891st of his career, on Tuesday night against the Boston BruinsWashington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is just three goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky for most goals in an NHL career, four away from passing The Great One.

The Chase for Gr8ness is becoming the talk of the league, seemingly overshadowing the Capitals’ quest to take home the President’s Trophy. Now, with just eight games left in the regular season, all signs are pointing to Ovechkin accomplishing the incredible milestone before we dive into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Looking at the Capitals’ upcoming schedule, there’s a great possibility that Ovechkin can get it done soon. Washington wraps up the second half of a back-to-back on Wednesday night, facing the Carolina Hurricanes. However, Ovi and the Caps return home on Friday to take on the lackluster Chicago Blackhawks, almost queing up a big night for The GR8.

On Wednesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Colby Cohen and Frank Seravalli discuss how long will it be before Ovi breaks Gretzky’s career.

Colby Cohen: He’s going to do it this year. There’s absolutely no doubt about that. This whole nomer that we could have the whole summer to talk about this and plan for opening night…he’s not going to allow it. In my opinion, he’s going to get a hat trick sometime here, and then it’s just going to come down to one. … I think, in the next four games, this record is done. I think he’ll have a two-goal game. You might not score one, and then maybe you see another two-goal game. So, I don’t think it takes him the full eight. I think we’re talking about this record being broken here in the next four games.

Frank Seravalli: What drama that would be to have that come down to the last game or two. That’d be incredible.
